Summary

As a Front of House Volunteer you will be the first person visitors meet when they arrive at Wycombe Museum.

Detailed description

A typical day in this role may include:

  • Welcoming visitors to the museum and making sure they have a lovely visit
  • Introducing each of the exhibits/galleries
  • Answering questions about the museum
  • Answering the phone and taking messages
  • Counting visitors and filling in feedback forms
  • Opening and closing the galleries by turning on/off gallery lights, shutters, projectors, front door
  • Encouraging visitors to donate to the museum
  • Supporting group visits and events
  • Being aware of what’s going on in galleries


Front of house shifts can be either: 10:00am – 1pm or 1pm – 4:00pm on Tuesdays – Fridays and Sundays. Volunteering opportunities are available every day.


A level of simple English is needed for this opportunity, in particular to ensure visitor safety.

About Wycombe Heritage & Arts Trust

Wycombe Museum has existed in some form since 1875, and has been in its home at Castle Hill House on Priory Avenue since 1962. It is now an independent charity managed by Wycombe Heritage and Arts Trust (WHAT), but was previously run by Wycombe District Council.
