Summary
We are seeking a dynamic individual to take the position of Chair of Trustees, playing a crucial role in steering the direction of our Museum.
Detailed description
We are looking for a person with experience in strategic thinking who loves working with, leading and managing people. We need a skilled negotiator who can advocate for the Museum in discussions with our funders, particularly Buckinghamshire Council and local community forums, as we build a sustainable future.
The successful candidate will join a Board of 11 local members with a wide range of experience and passion for WHAT and its purposes. The Chair will be working closely with the Museum Director to lead the Museum together.
The Chair is a member of the Board of Trustees with specific responsibilities for:
- Leading the Board on its responsibilities for strategic direction
- Upholding the charity’s good governance
- Arranging and chairing Board meetings
- Running the Annual General Meeting and other events
- Working in partnership with the Museum Director
- Supporting good relations between trustees, staff, volunteers and the general public
- Advocacy, engagement and connections with partner organisations
- Financial responsibility
The new Chair should be prepared to serve a full 4-year term devoting an average three days a month to the role in addition to the 8 hours monthly expected of all Trustees.

About Wycombe Heritage & Arts Trust
Wycombe Museum has existed in some form since 1875, and has been in its home at Castle Hill House on Priory Avenue since 1962. It is now an independent charity managed by Wycombe Heritage and Arts Trust (WHAT), but was previously run by Wycombe District Council.
