Summary

We are looking for three new Trustees to join our friendly team and to help make One Can Trust the best it can be.

Detailed description

One Can Trust operates a foodbank and community services. We are based in High Wycombe, serving the town and the wider area of South Buckinghamshire.

We work with local organisations, including Bucks Council and housing associations, to provide weekly food parcels to those who need urgent help. We have seen a huge increase in requests for support over the last two years due to the cost-of-living crisis. In addition to providing food for households who are struggling, we offer advice and support and other services to help tackle the causes of their financial difficulty, including a community café, children’s clothing bank, support for school meals, and cookery classes.

The Board actively seeks to ensure we have Trustees with a wide variety of skills and experience. We would particularly like to hear from you if you have experience in debt or benefits advice, or business.

Trustees help to make sure that the charity makes good decisions and uses its resources most effectively. We make sure that the charity does what it aims to do, is well-run, manages its finances properly and deals with risks. We also have to make sure that the charity is run in accordance with charity law and other relevant legislation.

As a Trustee, you would need to come to the Board meetings, which are held in person once every 2 months, in High Wycombe, Bucks. Sometimes you might be asked to represent One Can Trust at events or when meeting partner organisations or funders.

Although the role of a Trustee is unpaid, reasonable expenses can be reimbursed, including travel costs.

One Can is keen to encourage applications from individuals with the widest range of backgrounds and experience and we are actively seeking people with a range of diverse characteristics.

There is no requirement to have held a Trustee position before. Support and training will be provided, if necessary, alongside an induction programme. The most important thing we want to see is a commitment to the charity’s aims and enthusiasm for making a difference. If there is anything you’re not sure of, please email us and we will help you with the process.

If this role appeals to you and you have experience in one of the areas outlined above, please get in touch with us.

You will be invited to have an informal chat about the role and then you may be invited to come and observe a board meeting. Please let us know if there is anything you need to make the process more accessible.
