Job Description – Volunteer Shop and Café Assistants
Overall Job Objectives
As part of our friendly team, to assist with the day to day running of the shop and offer responsive and first-class service to the community, contributing to the financial viability of the community shop.
We want our team members to have fun, work safely and make friends, and we are so grateful for the huge contribution that our volunteers make to our community shop.

Main Tasks
· To greet and welcome customers
· To operate till and serve customers with shop purchases and to take orders for food and drink whilst providing excellent customer service at all times
· To prepare hot and cold drinks and cake items for serving
· To serve food and drink orders to tables, clean and clear away and ensure efficient, hygienic table turnaround
· To carry out kitchen clearing, washing up and housekeeping duties
· To provide excellent customer service at all times
Other Ad Hoc Tasks
· To carry out tasks listed in the Daily Tasks Checklists and close down procedures in relevant, and carry out daily duties in accordance with the Operating Procedures and checklists.
· To restock the shelves with any stock and deliveries in line with agreed procedures and ensure that surplus is stored in accordance with procedures
· To carry out housekeeping and cleaning tasks as directed by the Supervisor or Manager on shift
· To help ensure that all produce and it’s signage is correctly positioned and displayed
· Identify and Health and Safety hazards to Supervisor immediately
Place, Hours and Conditions of Work
· The place of work is Hughenden Valley Community Shop
· Hours to be agreed between the Manager and yourself.
· All training will be provided, and tasks can be learned at ones own pace
· Reporting to the Shop Manager and in the manager’s absence the Shop Supervisor on shift.
· All staff must take note of and, adhere to the health and safety policies described by the training supervisor on shift.
· Any reasonable request as directed by the manager or Supervisor in the managers absence.

Personal Safety and Hygiene
Team members personal responsibilities :
· To be clean and presentable
· Not come in to work if they have a temperature or are displaying symptoms of cough or cold
· Must not come in to work within 48 hours of sickness or diarrhoea
· Hands and nails must be washed on arrival on shift and an apron put on
· Aprons must always be taken off when going to the toilet.
· Hands should be washed and sanitised frequently during the shift and after visiting the toilet.
· Any food consumed must be during breaks and away from the counter area
· Long hair must be tied up and back away from the face
· No dangling jewellery such as necklaces or bracelets, or loose sleeves to be worn
· Practical, safe and closed in shoes/trainers should be worn
· Clothes should be smart casual, clean and comfortable
· Please wear plain white, navy or black tops (or navy and white stripy ‘Bretton’ tops if you have one)
About Hughenden Valley Village Store and Coffee Shop
We are ideally situated, adjacent to the children’s play area and village playing fields, nestled in the grounds of Hughenden Village Hall and we are run by a friendly team of paid staff and volunteers.
We have cosy inside, as well as outside, seating and the surrounding area is popular for cyclists and dog walkers. There is free WiFi, accessible toilet, baby changing, high chairs, and it is the perfect place to have a drink, a bite to eat either as a break on your own, or catch up with friends.
