Summary

We are seeking assistance in running New Parent & Baby Support Group - a friendly person to guide conversation and welcome parents.

Detailed description

Marlow Library has recently launched a New Parent & Baby Support Group, but attendance has drifted off since the initial session which had a Health Visitor Talk. We are looking for someone to help guide the conversation and welcome new parents into the session, which occurs in our Children's Library. A background with babies or children would be useful, though ultimately we looking for someone who can simply talk to and engage with local parents - every Wednesday from 11am until 12 noon.

Buckinghamshire Libraries regularly run events for adults. We provide a variety of activities from board games to craft and occasional or regular hold coffee mornings.

Tasks will be carried out in a public environment, and will involve:

  • To help set up for the event before the arrival of customers.
  • To be a friendly face and engage with library customers.
  • To help clear away chairs afterwards.
  • To signpost queries from members of the public to the appropriate member of staff.
  • Being a positive ambassador for the library service.
  • Liaising with library staff on a regular basis.
  • To take part in an induction process.
  • To be aware of Buckinghamshire Council’s aims, organisational values and behaviours and their impact on this role.
  • To carry out the duties of this role in accordance with the Council’s policies in respect of diversity and community cohesion.
  • To carry out all tasks and responsibilities with reasonable care for the health and safety of others and to co-operate fully with the Council in Health and Safety matters.

Skills required:

  • Good communicator and comfortable engaging with people (parents and babies primarily), including those with additional needs.
  • Ability to work as part of a team as well as on own initiative.
  • An interest and awareness of library services would be beneficial.
