Summary

We are seeking someone to support our customers with IT issues. This could be via 'Learn my Way' on our PC's or on their own device's.

Detailed description

At Buckinghamshire Libraries, our customers often require help using our PC's or their own devices. We are looking for volunteers who would like the opportunity to support learners in these sessions or if a customer needs support with their own device. We're flexible with which days and times work for you, so just get in touch to find out more!

We offer a programme of lessons via a programme called 'Learn my Way'. The ‘Learn My Way’ programme is designed to help people who are currently digitally excluded begin to develop their digital skills or to assist those who wish to improve their IT skills in particular areas. Learners will use library PC's or bring their own laptop or tablet to the library.

The programme is a series of self taught modules, which include:

  • Online basics – how to use a mouse, keyboard, email and the Internet
  • Look after the pennies – online
  • Understanding public services
  • Job hunting online including using Universal Job Match
  • Shopping online
  • Facebook and socialising online
  • Banking online
  • Completing online forms
  • Skills and careers online
  • Staying safe online
  • Staying healthy with NHS Choices

We are looking for volunteers with:

  • good, sound knowledge of digital packages and the internet
  • confidence using computers and mobile devices
  • good verbal communication skills
  • good literacy and numeracy skills
  • possible experience of delivering IT training
  • able to commit to supporting regular weekly sessions

Buckinghamshire Library Volunteers are required to:-

  • complete an application form
  • provide two references
  • take part in a full induction process
  • undertake training to deliver the UK Online Learn My Way programme.
  • be aware of Buckinghamshire Council’s aims, organisational values and behaviours and their impact on this role.
  • carry out the duties of this role in accordance with the Council’s policies in respect of diversity and community cohesion.
  • carry out all tasks and responsibilities with reasonable care for the health and safety of others and to co-operate fully with the Council in Health and Safety matters.
