We are looking for an enthusiastic individual who can host three author events in Marlow Library from 10 June - 14 June.Detailed description
Marlow Library is looking for an outgoing, confident and personable volunteer to host three or four author talks this year.
As part of Crime Reading Month in June, we have arranged for three crime/thriller authors to attend Marlow Library.
- Fri 6 June, 10.30-11.30am
- Tues 10 June, 10.30-11.30am
- Thurs 12 June, 10.30-11.30am
- We also have another author event (TBC) in late May or early June.
As the host, you will introduce the author and interview them in front of the the audience (up to 25 people). We may also require assistance beforehand setting up the space for the event. We have a list of questions available to provide structure for the interview.
The format for each event is as follows:
- Introduction by host
- Author interviewed by host
- Book reading (usually done by the author)
- Audience Q & A
- Book signing by author
As part of the role you will be required:
- To assist with the setting up process for the activity and help to ensure a safe and comfortable environment
- To meet and greet visitors
- To host the author talk: introduce the author, ask them questions, introduce the book reading, and close the event with a book signing.
- Tasks will be carried out in a public environment.
- Each author event lasts for 1 hour from 10.30-11.30am.
- To signpost queries from members of the public to the appropriate member of staff.
- To take part in an induction process.
- To be aware of Buckinghamshire Council’s aims, organisational values and behaviours and their impact on this role.
- To carry out the duties of this role in accordance with the Council’s policies in respect of diversity and community cohesion
Skills required:
- You're a clear and confident communicator, comfortable engaging with people (including those with additional needs)
- An interest in books, reading and the library service would be beneficial.
- Ability to work on own initiative and as part of a team.
