Summary

We are looking for someone to chair our well-established executive board replacing the incumbent who will step down this year.

Detailed description

Abbeyfield Great Missenden & District Society is an independent charity and is a member of Abbeyfield England. For over 40 years, we have owned and run a sheltered house, located in Link Road, making time for older people and enhancing their lives by bringing everyone together in a homely and friendly house that has established great links within the community. Abbeyfield England (AE) is a newly formed national body uniting local Abbeyfield societies across England and Wales. Abbeyfield England, as the membership body, remains inspired by Abbeyfield’s rich history of providing exceptional housing and care services for older people, and fostering a sense of belonging and independence within vibrant communities. The combination of charitable principles, dedicated volunteers and a resident centred mission makes Abbeyfield homes uniquely special places.

The Chair of Abbeyfield is responsible for providing effective leadership and management to the board of trustees, enabling them to fulfil their responsibilities for the overall governance and strategic direction of the society. They will lead a diverse, skilled board, which is representative of the community they serve. Often viewed as an ambassador and public face of the Society, they ensure the service is viable, provide high quality support and care for residents, and that the society is well integrated into the community. Where there is senior management, the Chair will provide support, and, where appropriate, challenge, ensuring that the Board and its staff team function as a unit and achieve their agreed objectives.

·       A keen sense of strategic purpose

·       The ability to listen and engage effectively.

·       Someone who is comfortable with challenge and debate

·       Someone who will encourage others while fostering a collaborative board

·       A strong personal commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion

·       Possess integrity, objectivity, accountability, honesty and leadership

·       An ambassador – who is able and willing to champion Abbeyfield Great Missenden, working through personal networks, social media, and other channels
